Events, Opportunities, and Information
January 09 Newsletter on the way! We just mailed out the January 09 HIT newsletter, so watch your mailboxes. Included with the newsletter are the Online Basic Hunter Education Field Day Lesson Plans, revised Basic HE test, Student Answer Sheet, and Answer Key for all basic HE instructors. Also included are the 2009 class schedules for the Anchorage, Matsu, and Kenai instructors.
South East Alaska Instructors Conference. The annual Regional Instructor Conference will be held in Juneau for active instructors living in South East Alaska on February 27th and 28th at the Baranof Hotel in Juneau. Wayne van Zwoll from Spokane, WA will be our guest speaker. Invitations have been mailed out to instructors who have taught at least one class in the last two years. RSVPs are due in the Anchorage office by January 20th.
New Basic Hunter Education Tests. Please check your mailboxes for revised materials. The envelope contains a new student test, a new instructor test, new student answer sheet, and new instructor answer key. Be sure to throw away all old materials and replace them with the new tests which go into effect January 1, 2009. You can also access the new documents on the HIT webpage by logging onto the instructor site.
Online Basic Hunter Education Course Activation. The Online Basic Hunter Education Course will be activated on January 20, 2009. Students will be able to take the classroom portion of the course via the internet. After they pass a 50 question test, they will receive a Field Day Qualifier Certificate and number that will enable them to sign up online for the mandatory Online Basic Hunter Education Field Day. This field day is a 4-5 hour course taught by HIT volunteer instructors in Alaska. All basic instructors were mailed the Online Basic Hunter Education Lesson Plan in late December. The lesson plan is also available on this webpage - you can access the lesson plan by logging into the instructor site.
Don't forget!
- Paperwork is due to the Anchorage office within 10 days of the completion.
- Remember to fill out a report form for each class taught
Becoming a Hunter Education Instructor
Do you love to hunt? Would you like to pass on the tradition to our younger generation? If so, Alaska's Hunter Information and Training Program is looking for interested men, women and young apprentice kids to become Volunteer Hunter Education Instructors. It is a volunteer position that provides many rewards. Together, Alaska's Hunter Education Instructors assist in developing safe Alaskan hunters, improving hunter ethics and responsibility, and passing on a valuable tradition to thousands of young new outdoorsmen.

Upcoming New Instructor Training courses
On October 23–24 there will be a two day training for new Basic Hunter Ed Instructors and new Muzzleloader Instructors that will be held in Anchorage at the Rabbit Creek Rifle Range.

Alaska Volunteer Hunter Education Instructor Association
The Alaska Volunteer Hunter Education Instructor's Association exists to promote safe, ethical and knowledgeable hunting in Alaska. Its members are made up of instructors certified by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
